AUTO INSURANCE

Auto insurance is mandatory in British Columbia. Ensure you select the right policy to protect you and your vehicle. The primary insurer in British Columbia is ICBC with their Autoplan product. Below is a brief explanation of their Basic Autoplan insurance available to you. For other additional coverage, please see the Optional Auto Coverage page for more information.

OPTIONAL AUTOPLAN COVERAGE

 

Basic Auto Insurance is mandatory in British Columbia and it ensures that all B.C. motorists at the very least carry some form of minimum auto insurance.

In today’s world of ever-increasing medical costs, benefits, wages, court costs, and vehicle repairs, it is highly recommended that all motorists carry additional coverage to properly protect themselves in the event of an unforeseen accident.

 

  • Excess Third-Party Liability

         Third-party liability covers you in the event you are found at fault in an auto accident and there are injuries or property                  damage involved. The basic policy covers you for $200,000 legal liability. Excess limits can be purchased from one million            to five million dollars.

  • Excess Underinsured Motorist Protection

    U.M.P. covers you in the event you are involved in an auto accident Motorist Protection with an underinsured motorist. Excess U.M.P. gives you the option to purchase excess limits to two million dollars.

  • Loss of Use

    This optional coverage will provide a rental vehicle while your vehicle is being repaired.

  • Roadside Plus

    This is a very comprehensive additional coverage that includes Loss of Use, Rental Vehicle Coverage, Vehicle Travel Protection, Emergency Roadside Expense Repayment, Locks, Keys and remote keyless entry transmitters, Family World Wide Transportation, Destination Assistance, and Theft deductible waiver.

  • Roadstar Package

    This package is less comprehensive than Roadside Plus but covers the following: Loss of Use, Rental Vehicle Coverage, Vehicle Travel Protection Coverage, Locks, Keys and remote keyless entry transmitters.

  • Replacement Cost

    Should your vehicle be rendered a total loss in an accident, this optional coverage will allow you to receive a new vehicle of the same model (with limits of depreciation) provided your vehicle is within three years old.

  • Limited Depreciation

    This coverage will reduce the depreciation on your vehicle provided your model year is within three years old.

  • Collision

    Collision coverage will pay for the repairs or replacement of your vehicle, less your deductible, in the event of an accident. This coverage will cover you regardless of who is at fault in the accident.

  • Comprehensive

    Comprehensive coverage covers everything that collision won’t, e.g. fire, lightening, flying objects, theft, earthquake, windstorm, hail, rising water, malicious mischief, riot, or civil commotion. Comprehensive will also cover impact with an animal. Windshield damage is typically claimed under this coverage.

  • Specified Perils

    This coverage is much like Comprehensive but does not include damage caused by impact with an animal or flying objects, which prevents this coverage from extending to your windshield.
